We are writing to acknowledge the police activity and officer-involved incident that occurred in our community yesterday evening in Milton. We recognize that events such as these can be upsetting and may raise questions or concerns for students and families.
Right now, local authorities say there is no known threat to the public. Our schools will be open as usual tomorrow, and keeping our students and staff safe and well is our top priority.
We know that children react to news and community events in different ways. Some students might have questions, strong feelings, or worries after hearing about the incident from others, social media, or the news. Tomorrow, extra support will be available at school, including counselors, support staff, and other trusted adults who can help students throughout the day. We encourage you to check in with your children tonight and reassure them with calm, age-appropriate conversations. Keeping routines and letting students talk about their feelings or questions can also help.
If your family needs more support, you can reach out to Milton Elementary School or Nute Middle High School counseling and support services. You can also contact the New Hampshire Rapid Response Access Point at 1-833-710-6477, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or local mental health providers in the Milton, Farmington, and Rochester areas.
We will keep working with local officials and will share more information with families if needed. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community.
