The Suncook Valley Junior High Championship Basketball tournament is at Farmington High School on Saturday. Our boys are the undefeated #1 seed and will play at 1:15. If they advance to the boys' championship game, that will be at 4pm. The Girls are in a 3-way tie with Allenstown and Chichester for the final seed in the tournament. We have the tie breaker with Chichester as we beat them head-to-head. Allenstown and Gilmanton have a game this afternoon and if Gilmanton wins our girls will be in the tournament. If Allenstown wins, they get a 4th league win and they are in and the Nute girls out as we only have 3 league wins. If our girls get the 4th seed, they will play in the tournament on Saturday at 12 noon. AD Wentworth

Mr. Barbarisi and the students in the music department have been working on some pretty great things! Here is an update from the music room:

In Beginning Band, Middle School Band, Middle School Chorus, and High School Band we are currently voting and/or have selected pieces for our spring concert which will be on Thursday April 23rd at 6pm. All of the pieces that students have selected so far have had new challenges for the performing groups. I have been teaching about counting in 5/4 time, tempo changes, various sixteenth rhythms, tied music notes, and the possibility about learning a song in different language in chorus. Students have selected a variety of popular music that will not disappoint!

Beginning Guitar Instruction student are learning Money by Pink Floyd which switches from 7/4 to 4/4 to 6/8 time throughout the song. We are also learning how to analyze a song using roman numerals just by listening to the various songs by ear, then comparing them to other commonly used chord progressions. They are also preparing for their final which requires them to perform a song in its entirety. Lastly, they are studying for the written portion of the final about the history of the guitar, music theory, chords and music terminology that we learned throughout the year.

Music Appreciation is finishing up the last decade of music (2010s - 2020). Students started the year by listening to music from the 1900s and every week have listened to iconic songs from each decade. We will have a listening final next week where students will have to identify songs by listening to them from 1960s - 2010s.

Congrats to our January Staff Member of the Month!
Staff Shout-Out: Mr. Goodwin
Al brought in warm apple cider for all of his classes (and peers) to enjoy on a beautiful, cool, crisp autumn morning at Nute. Because all of his classes were passing and doing well, he wanted to reward and encourage them. Gestures like this truly go above and beyond and contribute to a positive school culture and climate. This is just one example of this continuous thoughtfulness.
Mr. Goodwin has been a tremendous boon to Nute. He enthusiastically participates in dress-up days, volunteers during the summer to help refurbish the school, and consistently donates significant time—and his own money—to support his students and learning environment. Whether the idea for the podcast originated with him or his students, he saw it through to fruition, which is just one example of his leadership and innovation.
His ELO program requires extensive student support, collaboration, and community engagement, all of which he embraces fully. This nomination says it all—Mr. Goodwin truly goes above and beyond.
