Community Service: Building a Stronger Tomorrow Together!

At Nute, we believe in the power of community service to foster growth, empathy, and leadership in our students. By stepping outside the classroom and into our community, students gain invaluable life skills and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Our students are excited and ready to make a difference! From volunteering at local organizations to organizing charity events, they are eager to contribute and be active members of our community. Together, we are fostering a culture of service and responsibility that extends beyond our school grounds.

Join us in celebrating the spirit of giving back and the positive impact our students are making every day!

The Environmental Science class has been working on getting three hydroponic tower systems built and planted in class. The towers were purchased with grant money from the Farm to School Project. The three systems will be running in Miss Pratt's room - High School Life Science, Miss Davis' room - Family Consumer Science and the cafeteria. The harvested vegetables will be used by the cafeteria for student lunches and in Family Consumer Science classes for cooking learning experiences. Students in Environmental Science class monitor the pH and water levels of each system and grow the plants to germination before placing them in the tower gardens.

If you are looking for a great educational weekend activity, our friends at Moose Mountain Regional Greenway are offering a Winter Tree ID Walk

Join MMRG and Lindsay Watkins, UNH Cooperative Extension county forester and county forester for Strafford and Belknap, for a winter tree identification walk at Teneriffe Mountain Forest in Milton, NH Saturday December 6, 9:30a - 12p. This ecologically rich property features primarily oak and mixed hardwoods, with dramatic changes in forest composition as the elevation changes. Highlights include a rare chestnut oak stand—possibly one of the northernmost in New Hampshire—and a critically imperiled pitch pine rocky ridge community. Learn how to identify trees without their leaves while exploring one of the region’s most fascinating forest landscapes.

Visit https://mmrgnh.org/events for more information

Our ELO Program at Nute has worked closely with Branch Hill Farm, the MMRGs sister organization, and greatly appreciates the relationship we have with these community organizations.

Dear Nute Middle/High School Families,

Nicotine pouches are being marketed as “tobacco-free” alternatives, but they are just as addictive and are becoming increasingly popular among youth. To help parents stay informed, Parents Against Vaping is hosting an important webinar with Dr. Shivani Mathur Gaiha of Boston Children’s Hospital.

This session will explore the rise of nicotine pouches, the ways they’re marketed to young people, and what families can do to protect kids and our wider community.

Webinar Details
Title: The Pouch Problem: Protecting Kids From a New Nicotine Trend
Date: Tuesday, December 2
Time: 6:00 PM EST
Location: Zoom
(Registration link and QR code are included on the attached flyer.)

During the webinar, you will learn how to:
Recognize how nicotine pouches are marketed and sold to youth
Understand the health risks and addictive nature of these products
Talk with kids and community members about emerging nicotine trends
Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions and leave with practical next steps to support prevention at home and at school.

Please see the attached flyer for full details and registration information.

Student Shout Out!
We've noticed an increase in students bringing in and consuming energy drinks at school. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises that children ages 12–18 should limit caffeine to no more than 100 mg per day and avoid energy drinks entirely.

Caffeine consumption in children can lead to sleep difficulties, behavioral or mental health concerns (such as increased anxiety, stress, or aggression), and in some cases, heart rhythm problems, seizures, and other health risks.

To learn more, you can view these interesting articles on the John Hopkins , Pediatric Associates, and CDC websites

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 603-652-4591
